How reliable it is to repack Macbook Batteries?

Unfortunately we get mountains of low quality macbook batteries. Quality Macbook batteries are hard to find, and often are hit and miss. Some might last 2 years, others 2 months from same supplier. And we are not talking about 50$ ebay/amazon batteries.

Customers now wants convenience: Fast turnaround (Need to have stock), extended warranty (if fails within 6 months need to replace for free) while happy to pay for premium Apple like cost. Because don;t want to stay without their devices for 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, barely under a year after replacement we see that most of them cuts off when reach bellow 40%. When taken apart, often one cell is puffed or measures dead voltage. As a genuine battery cuts the voltage, while replicas still run, but on reduced capacity.

We can replace the failed cell effectively with spare used cell which is prepeared and is measuring a good capacity. Unfortunately cannot find brand new cells either.

My question is How reliable is to swap individual cells and reprogramm the chip? I read couple topic on the forum, but not a definite solution that it works.

Also is there a plan or active development to supprt newer than 2023 mac batteries?

Regards, G

You need to make sure the cells are identically before replacing. If the cells have the same chemistry/profile then yes, you can replace.

It is in progress right now.

Yes cells will come from same model battery with faulty cells. They are usually 3 cells. Most of the time one or two fails, Very rarely all 3 goes bust.

What is the current Macbook model compatibility? All models before 2023?

Also whats involved with the process?

  1. Replace the faulty cell
  2. Run cell repair/program
  3. Run balance and reset counter

Yes

The process is like this:

1. Find an identical cell to replace the existing cell. Read battery parameters using NLBA1 and make sure the static parameters like DesignVoltage, DesignCapacity, ManufacturerName, DeviceName and ChipName are the same. Also check the dynamic parameter FCC which represents the actual battery capacity. The FCC should be almost the same. If battery under repair has for example FCC=4000mAh then find a battery with FCC equal or greater than 4000mAh.

2. Unseal, Clear Chip Erors

These are, in principle, the steps.
