No, not yet, it is not so simple. We are proud that we released a major update with the most important features of a PRO analyzer.
Next would be to focus on adding more features for the Chip Reset Option. It is a lot of work, I hope people understand it and support us.
Currently, all the supported chips are presented officially here: https://www.laptopu.ro/product/laptop-battery-chip-reset-repair-and-program/
First of all, congratulations for such a major release! It seems like the new software has a lot of additional features that it previously did not have, as well as simplified pinout entry so that it is less likely to mess things up when sending pinouts to be added.
In particular, I am most interested in the I2C support, since a few older laptop batteries do not support SMBus and therefore were not previously testable under the NLBA1.
However, my problem is that I only have firmware revision 1.13, which isn't supported as I need 1.15 for I2C support! Please tell me I don't have to buy a whole new device, since it cost about £230 to originally buy this, and whilst it is definitely worth its purchase price, I simply cannot afford to buy another one (at much higher price now) in this current climate/cost of living crisis etc.
I also note that there has been a suggestion to purchase an additional flash chip and solder it on. I don't have the tools/skills/equipment to do board level soldering. I also don't have the money to spend on something that I know won't pay back itself in the long run, e.g. paying £80 means I need to sell 10 laptop batteries just to get that back. But will I get 10 working laptop batteries in older form that support I2C instead of SMBus?
Overall, excellent work, but support needs to be there for ALL NLBA's and there needs to be an easy and convenient way to upgrade the firmware, like how on a PC you can download a BIOS update.
Thank you for the feedback.
We decided to close any open doors for the update due to security reasons, it is a quite unique product with thousands of hours behind, so we cannot afford any firmware update. Of course, this is not a very good reason for the security since there are many security updates but to design such a secure update we must change the device which means tons of effort and the price definitely will be much. higher.
Since you have supported us since the beginning, I know you I will ship several new chips to my UK partner so you can receive it from him locally, no customs and no high shipping costs. But you need to find someone to replace your chip, maybe Sorin
But please note, the I2C support is added in the firmware but in the NLBA1 PC Software there is only a panel for sending I2C commands, there is no special functionality added. We plan to add support for I2C chips used in portable speakers for example. Anyway, it is good to have 1.15.

Hello,
Thank you for getting back to me, fair enough, I understand that you wouldn't want to put the security of the NLBA at risk.
I've also just noticed that the Charging feature now also allows you to monitor individual cells, this is very useful as I can now see more in depth information which will help to see what is wrong with some batteries. I have had it before where the charging stops and starts again at random (when you get close to 100%), I should now be able to see if it is just one cell causing the problem.
Thank you for the offer, I gladly appreciate that, I should be able to find someone who can replace the firmware chip. I don't have the tools or knowledge to do such a task and would be worried about ruining the NBLA completely, so it's best if someone else does it.
Thank you once again
Maybe Sorin could help you if you ship the device to him. Are you from the UK, right ?
P.S. There is new functionality to analyze the log where you can see much more info.
