1. Looks to me the battery is NOT locked at all, but popup window thinking differently 😶

2. When the popup window [lock status] is here, I can't use Snapshot feature (main windows not in focus, because used modal popup window)

Dell battery Y0956 - NLBA does show some mishap:

- when SoC coming to high level, we can see sort of ramp up pulsing charge (see a snapshot)

- it's ended by loosing connection with a battery

- only using Disconnect/Connect clicks restoring communication and I can continue charging

- after two-three minutes of charge, I see same ending

I think I found a meaning of the Dell batteries Icharge pulsing with NLBA ...

When I limit NLBA current to 1000 mA, the pulsing didn't happening so fast.

When it happened again, I did just dial down to 500 mA and charging did stop with SoC 100% in 6+ minutes

See last value Mfg Access:470A (fully charged).

Seems to me, the battery's controller asking to reduce charging current (why ? it should control it by itself; perhaps 8011 is too dumb ?).

Perhaps the AI could be added to NLBA program in a future.

Oops ! I didn't realize - the program pull chip info from SMBus !! Perhaps full charge did allow that ?!

Tested second battery of the model - same behavior.

And BTW, NBLA pulled chip info by SMBus, only if the batter charged close to SoC=100%.

I did catch pulsing during 3A charge, lover Ich to 2A and missed pulsing, did disconnect/connect and lover Ich to 1A.

Soon it's stopped at 100% without loosing communication.

You mixed a lot of information and it is too hard to follow them.

For the Lock status, make sure you update the parameters and they are not from a previous read.

Sanyo uses pulse charging near Fully Charge, I explained several times here on the forum.

The communication should not be lost, it is lost because the device got a hard reset, it is possible the battery does something bad like draining a high current.

This battery requests 5800mA from the Charger which definitely could not be handled by NLBA1.

Could you explain in theory how battery chip could control charging current itself?

You could take the latest bq40z795a for example.

Actually, it's perfectly charging by 3A - see pictures above.

The point is - by pulsing Ich the battery is sending a note to charging device - "dial down Ich !".

Sure, giving 5.8A would speedup the process 🙂

Measuring is simple, but you have talked about regulating!

Its different things perhaps)..

Me would like you to describe full regulating mechanism not only first step...
