What are the functional differences when using NLBA1 and EV2400

Hello. I have several batteries that need to be repacked or unlocked. On the BQ9000, BQ40320, BQ40370, BQ40z696A, MAX1786A chips. I also have an EV2400 adapter. Can I use the NLBA1 software with the EV2400 device?
I used the Demo version of the program and it works well with EV2400.

NLBA1 is Laptop Battery Analyzer. It has built-in Digital Charger, Electronic Load and USB-to-SMBUS communication interface. Such a combination allows to charge, discharge, carry out cells resistance check and read batteries parameters. Optionally chip reprogramming is possible on subscription basis.

EV2400 is just USB-to-SMBUS/I2C/HDQ/SPI communication interface. It does not have inside neither Digital Charger nor Electronic Load so it could not be used to charge or discharge the batteries.

So as you could see these are different devices, also they produced by different companies and not compatible with each other.

Yes, but only limited features are supported. Charge, Discharge, Cells Check Tabs are not available for EV2400 hardware.

Reset tab is available on subscription basis.

Thanks for the detailed answer. Can NLBA1 reset all these chips?

Not all but many.

Full list of supported chips could be found on product description page.

Are the Maxim family chips not supported? I didn't find them in the list.

And another question. I read on the forum about replacing batteries and resetting chips, but I didn't find anything about changing the charging voltage, namely about changing the upper and lower charging thresholds in case of replacing with batteries different from the previously installed ones (LT COV Threshold, LT COV Recovery, CUV Threshold). Are such functions available? Or is it not necessary to do this?

Are the Maxim family chips not supported?

Correct. They use obsolete LPT port which is not available in modern computers so their support was not even added. Also these chips are quite rare and in some cases could be replaced by supported chips. For example pcb with MAX1786A in Asus A32-F82 battery could be replaced by pcb with bq20z90 or bq20z95 from same type of battery which are supported.

Please answer this question.

When battery is rebuilt with new cells, it is not enough to change just upper and lower thresholds. A lot of other parameters should be changed too. For example if pack was equipped with LiHV 4.40 cells but LiPo 4.20v are planned to install instead, then following parameter groups should be reprogrammed

- Charge profile

- Protection profile

- Permanent Failure profile

- Chemistry profile (for IT gauges)

- CEDV profile (for EDV gauges)

- SBS profile

On custom gauges like bq304xx, bq403xx additionally DELL Express Charge profile should be reprogrammed otherwise battery will not work correctly in the laptop.

On batteries with Sanyo firmwares additionally Sanyo specific profiles should be reprogrammed and so on.

All these features are not supported by generic license so not included in license price. But it could be done remotely by tech support on extra payware basis.

The only supported by the license features are below

- Unseal / Seal the chip

- Read / Write EEPROM

- Unlock / Clear Error / Clear PFF

 So lets resume.

Unlocking of supported chips could be done by NLBA1 with subscription.

But if you plan to rebuild the batteries with new cells then its need to purchase ev2400 and extra support service to reprogram them correctly.

So, can I not buy a license, but buy extra support service for each individual battery?

Yes, but for subscribers extra support service is slightly cheaper. Also license give you opportunity to unlock the chips by yourself on batteries with good cells which were stored for too long.

I paid for the chip reset license yesterday, but I haven't received the license yet. How long will it take for me to receive it?
