Dell J60J5 Help Requested

Hi,

I have a Dell J60J5 battery that I could do with some help with. Initially, it was unbalanced and locked. I've now rebalanced it, but when I try to clear the errors it always reverts to a 'Charging Disabled, Discharging Disabled' state and remains locked. I don't know if it's relevant but if I try to read the EPROM I get an error 'Code 21'. Any ideas?

Pay attention to the decoded flags.

Chip was unlocked at first attempt of clearing errors, it is indicated by zero PF Status highlighted in green. Then it was relocked because the reason of the fault was not rectified.

There is hardware issue with fuse circuit indicated by Fuse Active bit highlighted in orange. It should be troubleshooted and rectified to unlock the chip successfully

I fully agree with the above but didn't understand the significance of 'Fuse active' - whether it showed a normal status or indicated a problem.

Do you have any suggestions about what sort of problem I should look for?

It indicates issue. You could check the flags on working battery for example on the forum, this flag should be zero so missing.

All fuse related circuit from chip "Fuse Control" pin to Fuse itself should be checked. Refer to datasheet.
